Democrats aren’t doing so well in Iowa: “A new Des Moines Register poll is great news for Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, as well as GOP gubernatorial hopefuls Terry Branstad and Bob Vander Plaats. It is very bad news for Iowa’s current Governor. The poll clearly shows Iowans are fed up with the inept management of Democrat Chet Culver. His overall approval rating sits at just 40 percent.”

Boost Bob Vander Plaats Day December 8th!! « Can-Do Conservatives of America

Boost Bob Vander Plaats Day December 8th!!

On Tuesday, December 8th it will be six months until a pivotal battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party and the Conservative movement, the Iowa Republican Gubernatorial primary.

The citizens of the Hawkeye State deserve a brand new day and a new leader to re-establish common sense Conservative values and principles. Iowa needs a leader who will get rid of the massive state debt while putting Iowans back to work and opening the state back up for business. Iowa needs a leader who will stand up for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The state of Iowa deserves to be a model for the nation in enabling the disabled by giving them a hand up and not a hand out tied to the Government ball and chain. That leader is Bob Vander Plaats!

However the establishment of the Iowa Republican Party doesn’t think so. They have gotten a 4 term former Governor out of retirement, Terry Branstad. While he served Iowa for 16 years and is well-respected, Iowans deserve a new leader to lead them into a new day.

While a lot of attention is being given to Senate primaries Rubio/Crist (Florida) and DeVore/Fiorina (California) this is just as, or even more important to the Conservative movement!  Iowans have a clear choice in the Republican primary. Will they choose the moderate, backed by the Establishment and move backwards? Or will they choose the clear, Conservative choice with a new vision and new ideas? This battle for the heart and soul of our Party is being waged all over the country but the epicenter is Iowa, the state where the next Presidential cycle will begin.

Please join me on Tuesday, December 8th and make a donation to the Bob Vander Plaats Campaign. I suggest a donation of $20.10 but if you believe that Bob Vander Plaats should be the next Governor of Iowa please make a donation of any size (whatever you can afford).

Bob is facing a candidate that will have a larger warchest, funded by the establishment of the party. Please consider forgoing lunch or that cup of coffee on December 8th. If you cannot afford to give please invite your Conservative friends to this effort! Let’s give Bob the boost he needs to win!!!  Please  visit the Facebook Event page for this effort and share it with all of your Conservative friends!

Facebook | Bob Vander Plaats: Vander Plaats Tops Culver...Again!

Vander Plaats Tops Culver...Again!
DES MOINES – Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats said the Iowa Poll results in The Sunday Des Moines Register showing him with an 8-percent lead over Democratic Gov. Chet Culver underscores the public’s “complete lack of confidence” in the incumbent’s policies and leadership skills.
Vander Plaats, who is seeking the 2010 Republican gubernatorial nomination also said the poll dispels claims by Terry Branstad’s campaign that the former governor is the only candidate who can defeat Culver. Branstad also leads Culver in the poll.

“I know Republicans have been hearing that we needed Governor Branstad to ride to the rescue because no one in this current generation of leaders can defeat Chet Culver. This poll is a snapshot in time but it’s a picture that is giving Republicans and conservatives a tremendous amount of confidence and momentum,” Vander Plaats said. “The Iowa Poll is the second survey of Iowans this fall that shows me defeating Chet Culver in a head-to-head match-up. The jury is in and the verdict is that Iowans want new leadership.”

In late September, a poll of general election voters by the Rasmussen Reports showed Vander Plaats leading Culver by a 4 percent margin.

“The Iowa Poll reflects our growing momentum and Iowans’ complete lack of complete in Chet Culver because of the way he has mismanaged the state budget, the Iowa Film Office, economic development, the response to the floods in Cedar Rapids and other eastern Iowa communities last year and his ineffective leadership skills,” Vander Plaats said. “Iowans know we’re much better than that and they’re ready for a governor who will open our state for business once again, reestablish Iowa as an education leader and runs a state government that performs exceptionally well. That’s why more people are joining our campaign every day.”

Will Corning calls hurt Branstad?

By Kathie Obradovichkobradov@dmreg.com • November 12, 2009

Former Gov. Terry Branstad is getting a little more campaign heartburn. His former lieutenant governor, Joy Corning, recorded robo-calls on behalf of One Iowa, a group promoting marriage rights for gays and lesbians. Details are here. The calls have nothing to do with the Branstad campaign, but his association with Corning gives his right-wing critics ammunition to expand their theme that he’s not quite conservative enough.

Branstad associates have told me that he chose Corning — who’s also pro-choice — for his 1990 and 1994 races mainly for her eastern Iowa background and campaign mettle. But her choice at the time was also seen as providing some philosophical balance for Branstad, who was the conservative in the race.  Rival 2010 candidate Bob Vander Plaats has already poked at that, saying at his formal campaign announcement in September that he wouldn’t be looking to balance his ticket with a pro-choice running mate.

How big of a problem is this for Branstad? By itself, not much.  Most voters put little importance on the choice of a running mate — and even less on past choices.  But it adds to the negative publicity he received from his comment about the Commission for the Blind and poor reviews of his performance at last weekend’s GOP dinner.  It serves to undermine that mantle of invincibility and give heart to his GOP rivals.

Vander Plaats celebrated Veterans Day by suggesting employers honor vets by hiring them. The Gazette has that here.

Vander Plaats represents GOP values | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

In a Nov. 1 letter, Carol Legg Zeigler asserts that Bob Vander Plaats is not familiar with the core values of the Republican Party. A two-minute Google search to read the platform of the Republican Party of Iowa will quickly reveal who is truly not familiar with Republican values.

Sorry, Zeigler, but a stand against abortion is the first plank laid out in the RPI platform. Plank No. 6 clearly supports marriage between one man and one woman and strictly opposes adoption by same-sex couples. Anti-infanticide (murder) is not a recently introduced issue by the "far-right socially conservative wing" of the party. It is a command given to Moses several thousand years ago. If these are "not Republican Party values or principles," then why are they in the RPI platform? True Republicans are leaving the party because the party seems to only give lip service to its own planks.

To Vander Plaats and many other true Republicans, these principles are core convictions, not merely political issues.
